Turkish History

Evidence of inhabitants as early as 6000 BCE has been found, and although the legendary Troy was founded there about 3000 BCE, the first to be recorded in history were the Hittites. They arrived about 2000 BCE, either from Europe or central Asia, and ruled much of Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Syria for the next several hundred years becoming the leading power in the Middle East by 1500 BCE.

Between 1200 and 500 BCE, much land was ceded to Phrygian and Lydian invaders, whilst Greek colonialists founded many city states along the Aegean seaboard.
