Temple of Apollo

From the forecourt, a flight of steps lead up to the pronaos with its many huge decorated columns supporting a frieze decorated with carved heads and acanthus leaves. Although originally designed to not have a roof, one was subsequently added with a magnificently decorated ceiling.

Two sloping passageways and a staircase lead from here down into a central sacred courtyard. During its lifetime, the Temple has suffered a major fire, and major structural damage caused by an earthquake in the 15th century.
