Amman Amphitheatre

Set in the natural depression which is part of the Great Rift Valley, below the Citadel Hill, is the well preserved 2nd century CE Roman amphitheatre, which is still used for live performances.

Built into the side of the mountain, and lying behind the Roman Forum and alongside the Odeon, the theatre was built between 138 and 161 CE by the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, and with 6,000 seats is the largest in Jordan.
